Genesee Valley Ski Patrol

Who we are:

The Genesee Valley Nordic Ski Patrol is one of seven ski patrols that comprise the Genesee Valley Region (GVNSP). This region is part of the federally charted National Ski Patrol System having over 28,000 members. The Nordic Patrol is comprised of ladies and men who share a love for cross country skiing, skill development and serving the community.

Where we patrol:

The GVNSP has patrollers on duty at Mendon Ponds Park and Cumming Nature Center weekends, from the first of January through early March. Our main purpose as patrollers is to provide:

  1. Promotion of skier safety and enjoyment.
  2. First aid services
  3. Navigational assistance
  4. Skier safety and emergency care educational programs

Membership requirements:

  1. Outdoor Emergency Care: A 100-plus hour, one-time course (similar to Basic EMT training), refreshed annually.
  2. Skiing Ability: A series of free ski training clinics to help candidates reach the required proficiency or improve existing skills.
  3. CPR: Refreshed annually.
  4. Scheduled patrol days: Patrollers generally ski about ten weekend days per season and have flexibility in creating their schedule.
